Death/Cremation Procedure
Death registration is an administrative procedure that must be completed when a natural person dies. Only after the registration is completed can the person be legally removed from the family register.
(1) Reporter
- Persons obligated to report (relatives living with the deceased)
: A cohabitant refers to a person who lives with the deceased, and may be the head of household or not necessarily a family member.

(3) Documents to be submitted when reporting
- 1 copy of the deceased's resident registration card
- 2 copies of death certificate
- One copy of the death certificate issued by the hospital (if death occurred in the hospital)
- No fee for reporting
※ If you cannot attach a medical certificate or autopsy report
- Submit a death certificate written by the head of the neighborhood or village or two neighbors who are aware of the death.
(At this time, a copy or transcript of the neighbor's resident registration, a copy of the resident registration, and a certificate of seal are required.)
(4) Reporting period
- The person obligated to report must report within one month from the date of learning of the death.
- If you do not report within the period, a late fee must be collected.
(5) Notes when filling out the report
- Since the date of death is the basis for the commencement of Australian succession and inheritance, it must be accurately recorded on the death certificate.
-If a Korean citizen dies abroad, local time is used as the standard.
-If the Australian successor reports the death in Australia, the Australian succession report must also be filed.
Report every (flower)
- As with death reports, in case of burial or cremation, 24 hours after death must be considered in case the body may come back to life.
Afterwards, report and bury it.
- Exceptions apply for cases of pregnancy less than 7 months. However, in case of stillbirth, a postmortem examination report from a doctor or midwife is required in case the fetus is delivered dead.
It must be attached and the required documents are one copy of the stillbirth report, one copy of the doctor's birth certificate or autopsy report.
- To use a private cemetery, you must obtain a burial report from the town or township where the park cemetery is located and submit it to the park cemetery management office.
In addition, the required documents are two copies of the resident registration with the death report processed and one copy of the burial report certificate.
- In case of cremation, fill out a cremation report form, receive a certificate, report to the cremation management office, and receive a cremation report certificate.

- The reporting fee is 17,500 won if the deceased is 15 years of age or older, and 15,500 won if the deceased is under 15 years of age.
Survivor's Pension Support
- When it comes to national pension, many people only think of the old-age pension they receive when they get older, but there are also people who subscribe to the national pension or who received the pension.
In case of death, a certain amount of survivor's pension is also paid to the surviving family.
- Survivor pensions give top priority to those whose livelihood was supported by the deceased.
(Paid in the following order: spouse, children, parents (including spouse's parents), grandchildren, and grandparents)
(1) Amount of survivors' pension payment
- Survivor pensions vary depending on the subscription period and amount received.
· In case of less than 10 years, 40% of basic pension amount + allowable pension amount
· In case of 10 years or more but less than 20 years, 50% of basic pension amount + allowable pension amount
· 60% of basic pension amount + allowable pension amount for 20 years or more
※ The amount of pension available is the amount of the livelihood maintained by the beneficiary at the time the beneficiary acquires the right to receive the pension.
It is a type of family allowance paid to spouses, children, and parents. 150,000 won per year is paid to spouses, and 150,000 won per year is paid to children and parents.
Each person is paid 100,000 won per year.
(2) Required documents
- Claim form for survivor's pension payment
-Death certificate (in the form prescribed by the National Pension Service)
- Family register with confirmed death (copy of attendance register)
-Resident registration copy (original)
-One copy each of death certificate and first examination certificate
- Beneficiaries (survivors' pension recipients) must submit one copy each of their resident registration card, seal certificate, personal seal, and bankbook copy.

(3) Apply
- When applying for survivor's pension, apply at the National Pension Service in your jurisdiction.
- Pension payments are made to the beneficiary's deposit account on the last day of the month following the application.
